Spreadsheet format for your own MnemoRep study cards
A MnemoRep spreadsheet file has a maximum of two tabs (worksheets); the first tab always contains card details and the (optional) second tab stack details.
Columns that must mandatory be filled are marked with an asterisk (*).
|Wrong Answer 1
|Wrong Answer 2
|Wrong Answer 3
|The unique name of your stack of cards
|The item you want to learn by heart; or learn to translate etc.
|Translation, description or answer matching the Term. Leave blank if you only want to memorize the Term (e.g. a law article)
|Optional text to help remember the Term
|Optional erroneous Explanation, for Multiple Choice only
|Optional, for Multiple Choice only
|Optional, for Multiple Choice only
|French -100 reversed
|Capital of India
|Starts with N
|Water is heavier than ice?

|2 * 5 + 3 =
|“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly.”
– John F. Kennedy
Please mind the following:
- Stack: there is no limit, but long stack names get truncated on some screens. Please try to make the first 30 characters unique (enough) to avoid confusion.
- Term: the formatting you apply in the spreadsheet is copied to the card shown in the app. So make words bold, italic and/or underlined to make them stand out, center the text, add line breaks and/or super- or subscripts for formulas as needed. Any combination of these mark-up options in the same cell is possible, on as many (part of) words as you need.
- Hint: only use when really adds value e.g. if you create a stack for someone else.
- Explanation and Wrong Answers 1-3: these can be formatted as well, similar to Term. The way these columns are filled throughout the stack, determines which options you have to study the cards in the app:
|How does it work?
|Required for every card in the stack
|The Term and two, three or four possible Explanations are shown. Tap the correct one. A knowledge rating of 100% (correct) or 0% (wrong answer) is stored automatically.
If you needed the (optional) hint, a correct answer scores 70%.
|Explanation and at least one Wrong Answer filled
|Speak to yourself
|Only the Term is shown. After you have remembered the description, tap ‘Show’. Then compare your answer with the correct Description and rate your knowledge by selecting a percentage range.
|Explanation must be filled
|Only the Term is shown. You enter the description and confirm. A green colour indicates a correct answer and a red colour (shown twice as long) a wrong answer. A knowledge rating of 100%, 70% if you looked at the optional Hint or 0% (no match with correct Description) is stored automatically.
|Explanation must be filled but not longer than 20 characters
|The Term and (if filled) the Description (only the correct one) are shown together. You rate your knowledge by selecting a percentage range.
|Nothing. Only Term is enough (e.g. to learn poetry verses by heart).
With the second tab you can add the above three fields to the stack name. You can leave this tab empty if you only want to extend existing stacks with extra cards.
|Must exactly match either a new stack name on the first tab or an existing stack name imported earlier into the app
|Optional symbol of the category of stacks.
|Use this to group multiple stacks together.
|First 100 words for beginners; version 1.0. Supports course ABC
|20th century politicians
|North America only; for subject XYZ 1st semester 2020
|Basic calculations, to train mandatory sequence of operators. Suitable for grade X and Y.
Please mind the following:
- Emoji: choose from tens of thousands of free emoji’s on the Emojipedia site. On the page of your favorite emoji, find the “Copy and paste this emoji:” section and click the Copy button. Then paste into the cell in the MnemoRep spreadsheet.
- Category: please make sure that multiple stacks that belong together have exactly the same category name. A typo will cause a second category to be created. You can correct this with a new import spreadsheet.
- Description: any length of text is shown on the stack details screen, without truncation. You can use this field to explain background, version or any others useful information about your stack of flashcards. Especially if you send it to other people to study.
Sample .ods MnemoRep extra flashcards spreadsheet
You can download the below spreadsheet to your PC or laptop, to use as a template for your own cards. Or download to your Android device and then import into MnemoRep, to see this sample of various formatting and answering mode options in action:
Send MnemoRep spreadsheets to your Android device
After you have created an .ods spreadsheet with the free Libre Office Calc program or Excel on your PC or laptop, you must bring them to your Android smartphone or tablet. There are three ways to do this:
Attach the spreadsheet to a mail and send it to yourself (or to someone else studying MnemoRep flashcards!). On your Android device, open the mail and download the attachment. Your file with extra cards is now in the Android Downloads folder.
Note: sample files you download from our website using your smartphone, also end up in the Android Downloads folder.
- Google Drive
On your computer, move the .ods file(s) to the Google Drive folder. Then check on your Android smartphone or tablet if the files are visible via the Google Drive app. You might need a Wifi connection to synchronize files to your Android device.
- USB cable
Connect your Android smartphone or tablet to your PC or laptop via a USB cable. Then drag the MnemoRep spreadsheet with your own flashcards to the DCIM (user documents and images) folder on your Android device. You need no Wifi or mobile internet for this option.
Import your flashcards in the MnemoRep app
Tap on the ‘Data’ menu option. Then tap the ‘Select .ODS file’ button to confirm you are ready to select spreadsheet files. This will start the standard Android File Picker app.
Tapping the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines top-left) will give access to the separate parts of your Android storage:
The numbers in red match the various ways of sending MnemoRep spreadsheet files to your Android smartphone or tablet. Tapping on the phone icon (3.) will give access to the DCIM folder.
You can only select files of the correct type (.ods Open Document spreadsheet). When tapping on a file, importing starts immediately. This is indicated by the orange progress circle.
After the import has completed, you will see a summary in this screen:
Zero cards added typically means that you are importing a file for the second time.
Your new data is immediately visible on the Stacks screen.
Study your own new flashcards
Tap on your new stack in the Stacks window, then in the Stacks Detail window, scroll down and tap on the ‘Rate Your Knowledge’ button to start memorizing.
Removing imported flashcards
